Michael Wolf is a New York City–based artist whose work spans sculpture, installation, and drawing. His practice explores the human condition through metaphor, using architectural and geometric forms to reflect our physical and psychological need for shelter—whether experienced, remembered, or imagined. Working primarily with materials like wood, gold leaf, metal, and stone, Wolf creates contemplative spaces that engage with history while evoking memory, place, and transformation. Organic and draped forms often contrast with rigid structures in his work, creating tension and balance that invite introspection.
Wolf’s work has been featured in notable exhibitions and institutions across the country. His large-scale installations have appeared at the Orlando Museum of Art, the Future of Cities Climate and Innovation Hub during Miami Art Week, and the Center for Contemporary Art. In 2022, he collaborated with the New York City Parks Department to create a public installation on the Allen Street Mall on the Lower East Side. His 2024 solo exhibition, Domicilium: A Place to Dwell, at ATELIER Gallery in Indiana, further established his reputation for immersive and thought-provoking work. Other solo exhibitions have been held at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, BrassWorks Gallery, the Sculptors Guild Gallery in Dumbo, and at SPRING/BREAK Art Show, where he presented a solo booth in 2023.
In 2020, Wolf completed a residency at Mana Contemporary, sponsored by the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation, and has exhibited with Monica King Projects at Intersect Aspen and Intersect Chicago/SOFA. His contributions have been recognized with individual artist fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, as well as the Power of Art Award, presented by Robert Rauschenberg.
Beyond the studio, Wolf is also active as a curator and arts writer. He has contributed articles to Whitehot Magazine, ArteFuse, B Scene Zine, and Art Zealous, and curated exhibitions for the Romanian Cultural Center, the Sculptors Guild and the web-based art platform Ask Arthur. Internationally, his work was included in a project for The Bau Container of Contemporary Culture in Viareggio, Italy, with subsequent presentations at Palazzo Reale and the Museo del Novecento in Milan.
